PARA HEROes by NOMURA Co., Ltd
'PARA HEROES Exhibition' is an exhibition compellation by four young artists and creators. On the theme of para-table tennis, they expressed the attractiveness of competitions and players, and communicated the concept of diversity and inclusion in Japan and to the world.
The exhibition design concept is "Uncoated".
We designed the exhibition space to best convey what artists see para-table tennis through their sensibility and put it into their works to express without fixed concepts or preconceptions. This exhibition was designed in the hope that visitors face the work by breaking away from their preconceived notions, sympathize with para sports and expand their feelings. The components are made from the original materials, and are woven with "base" materials such as canvas and whitewash that are associated with each art. Since all if the art pieces are displayed without case or frame, visitors can enjoy it without filtering. To harness natural light, we left the bottom of panels open so that the light reflects against floor and blanket the exhibition area. We created a fair and natural space where the display expressions changes with time.
Another important concept was to challenge to create a sustainable exhibition space
With a hope of continuing such a meaningful activity, we wanted to achieve a best way possible. In order to achieve the mission of reusing most of exhibition materials, as well as to add design element, we opted module parts such as wall surface of 900 × 1800, a stage of 900 × 1800, and a box-shaped base frame, all are usually used in invisible area of the temporary structure. We only discarded a small amount of support and paper materials. All the wood had been sourced from Fairwood Program.
When design work is for welfare or disability, we often prioritize functionality and creativity is neglected at a time. Believing in the value of cool design, we thank our client for giving this opportunity.
