Ambientec GALLERY designed by ODS / Oniki Design Studio
A gallery design for Ambientec, a company specializing in the production and sales of high-quality portable lighting fixtures. Our goal was to create space that could display the full range of Ambientec’s products, each of which glows in its own way, within a limited area while being flexible enough to change the layout in the future.
This led to the idea of fixtures that can be reconfigured in various ways using modular components. The frames and the thin white plates can be assembled into a shelf or a display table of different sizes. We fabricated four different types of frame, each of which is made of steel square pipes of 16 x 16 mm cut and welded with a high degree of precision. The joint parts are made in highly wear-resistant engineering plastic used for electrical equipment, holding the frame components tightly together while allowing them to be reconfigured easily. Once the shelf boards are screwed to the frame, the shelf is complete. The space between the shelf boards is used for wiring to charge the lighting products. For the display tables, the frame parts are assembled to form a stand and then capped by an aluminum box.
The detailed design of these fixtures for this project was done in collaboration with Ambientec engineers. The fixtures are fabricated with a high degree of precision thanks to the experience and knowledge of those who design precision products, as well as their materials and construction methods. With white reflectors surrounding each product to prevent light from interfering with each other, the shelves are designed as a ‘specimen box’ to highlight each of Ambientec’s products.
