Penthouse S designed by Lunar Studio (China)

Different from the general situation of living in the city and vacationing in the suburbs, our client hopes to have a vacation apartment in the city center, where theycan enjoy the convenience of the downtown area while also relaxing.

The city center of Shanghai has bustling landscapes and convenient transportation, but it also makes living in a cramped environment. Even mature communities are not immune to noise and poor ventilation.

The duplex is located on the top floor of a small high-rise building with three levels and a rooftop terrace. The original MEP facilities of the second-hand house are all old and unreasonably designed, so it is imperative to renovate the whole house.

The clients have excellent taste and a strong demand for a healthy and quality life, focusing on all-round comfort, sunlight, air, sound and water quality.

The floor plan is designed into an open plan, and a skylight is added to enhance natural ventilation and crossflow. With remote control, our clients simply open one skylight to start improving ventilation.

The design of the water system connects the water pipes in the bedrooms and service rooms in series to avoid end branch water pipes. As long as someone maintains the house normally and turns on the faucets in the kitchen and nanny’s room, the water in the water pipes will flow, keeping it fresh.

The overall design revolves around the staircase transportation space that reaches to the sky. The open and public areas are designed into white tone spaces, and the connected bedrooms and bathrooms are all colored, resembling colorful caves.

Adapted to short-term vacation needs, the storage features instant access and meets visibility and display requirements. According to the volume of items and human comfort, the storage space is designed together with the walls, as if growing out of the walls.

Terraces for relaxation are a rare resource in the city center. We select stone and clay textures to create a southern French atmosphere and is paired with green plants to cultivate a sunny and warm feeling.

The overall designed leisure space can provide protection from wind and rain, adjust the view of the landscape, and integrate a variety of leisure functions. The mini bar, sauna treatment, SPA bath among green trees and reading space surrounded by green plants are all unique experiences.
