Tokyo Gift Palette by cmyk Co., Ltd

“Tokyo Gift Palette” is a shopping compound made of recycled material from Shinkansen, the High-speed rail vehicle body. For the first time in history, recycled Shinkansen car material is used in a commercial facility building. Precisely, the aluminum from cars that retired in year 2020, is given a new life at Tokyo Gift Palette.

33 stores make up Tokyo Gift Palette ,  where the some of the best souvenirs can be found, conveniently located within the historical Tokyo station. It is at the center of all transportation lines in Tokyo, thus the environmental axis of design is developed surrounding the concept, ‘Innovation of Tradition’.

“Noren” is a curtain-like exterior decoration which has been a popular tradition in Japanese history, as a shop facade. We employed the recycled aluminum from Shinkansen High Speed Rail to re-create this facade in all main passages of the facility. Here, the “Noren” spans 130 meters and more, expressing its dynamic presence. In addition, original pattern graphic of cherry blossom named “Sakura Petals” is used throughout the design to create recognition that suits the history of its location.

By recycling top quality material unique to High Speed rail 700 series, we created a design that speak to a new frontier of quality and time. Tokyo Gift Palette is a highly-valued transportation hub that connects people’s passion for Shinkansen and sustainability.
