Minimalist National Style - "Wuwei" Art Museum designed by DOT.DESIGN (China)
This project is the exhibition hall design for BORCCI Kitchen Cabinets at the China International Building Decoration Fair (Shanghai) 2022. The design incorporates the feeling of "visiting a garden" throughout the entire space, breaking through site limitations to create a "changing scenery with every step" experience. The aim is to make the exhibition space rich in artistry, leisure, and amusement sense. The exterior facade of the entire exhibition hall exudes an oriental classical ambiance, while the interior space follows the aesthetic paradigm of simplicity. In addition to the specific colors of the products, the walls, floors, and soft furnishings use white to create a minimalist taste.
By rearranging and integrating the architectural space, the beauty of traditional Chinese water towns is infused into the simplified blocks. Combining the unique monochromatic color of the products, the project unifies the temporal and spatial contradictions, transforming the exhibition hall into an unbounded "four-dimensional space of art." At the same time, innovative fusion is applied in design by combining traditional elements with modern ones, creating a new form of artistic expression. Raised ridges, windows in white walls, undulating bamboos, and different stones—all these traditional elements fit right in their places within the garden.
This project delves deep into the essence of traditional Chinese culture and integrates it deeply into its design. For instance, the various spaces of the exhibition hall are separated but interconnected, embodying the concept of "changing scenery with every step" from Suzhou gardens within a limited area. On the other hand, such design also needs to adhere to natural principles, to meet the low-carbon and recycling requirements.
The project fully incorporates re-usability into its design. The rearranging and integrating process enabled the exhibition hall to be divided into six modules: living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, dressing room, and e-sports room. Each component can be easily disassembled and flexibly combined, allowing each module to be reused in future exhibitions, easing the environmental burden.
Meanwhile, the exhibition hall simplifies its interior and exterior decorations, using environmental-friendly coatings to showcase the connection between brand products and the overall space. This not only meets functional requirements but also embodies the theme of "Art Gallery of Wu Wei(means non-interference)" in a vivid way, conveying the brand's advocacy for a tranquil lifestyle to its visitors.
