KOKUYO has opened a digital fabrication studio in its office THE CAMPUS to launch a new business that utilizes digital fabrication technology. In the midst of diversifying work styles, KOKUYO needs to build a new base and introduce technology to support the next era of manufacturing and space design.

Semba Corporation completely renovated the head office into a Good Ethical Office that is friendly to the earth, people and society. We designed it to create new value by utilizing existing resources through a resource-recycling renovation process.

To realize KOKUYO's goal of Life Based Working, a satellite-type multipurpose space was built to accommodate employees' autonomous and personalized ways of working, learning, and living. By creating a place where employees can spend their disposable time in their way, we aimed for the simultaneous growth of both business and human resources. The company decided to provide employees with a place where they can freely use the space for their growth by encouraging personal growth from these relationships by feeling the space between employees, the city, and their families.

“TSO Sumida” is a shared office established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to practice new work style. In addition to individual workspaces, it has a coworking space, rental offices which is enable to work on small short-term projects, and a workshop for craftmanship. With an emphasis on being “friendly for future”, we approached the entire process from an ethical perspective and renovated a 45-year-old textile research institution into a shared office. Rather than rebuilding itanew, we inherited and utilized the memories that had cultivated thus far by converting existing items into designed materials and furniture. We appealed “Ethical Design” visually, converting wastes boldly. We challenged to expand the possibility of reuse of industrial waste by committing to the esthetics thoroughly.
