ZOZOBASE Tsukuba3 designed by NOMURA Co.,Ltd. (Japan)
ZOZOBASE Tsukuba3 breakout areas | Art Spaces with upcycled discarded materials
The design project of breakout areas for people working at ZOZOBASE Tsukuba3, the newest logistics base of ZOZO, Inc., operator of the fashion e-commerce site ZOZOTOWN.
NOMURA proposed the design to allow fashion-loving workers to choose a space to take a break that suits their day's mood, just like fashion.
The logistics base in Japan, with the latest equipment to ramp up automation, uses 30% less labor, and 100% renewable energy, and makes extensive use of sustainable and unique materials for an environmentally friendly facility.
Based on the concept of "making the fashion-loving workers HAPPY," we designed breakout areas that allow them to choose a space depending on their mood of the day, just like fashion.
In addition, artwork upcycled from ZOZOUSED's discarded products will make them "HAPPY."
* ZOZOUSED is the second-hand clothing fashion zone of ZOZOTOWN.
There are two breakout areas, each designed with a fashion-related concept: 'denim' and ‘plaid.'
The 1st floor is themed around ‘denim,' which can be enjoyed over time and was once used as a worker's uniform.
The 5th floor is ‘plaid': The walls and ceiling are decorated with seven colors on a plywood grid. The pattern appears differently depending on one's position in the room.
Logistic bases are often made of metals and concrete due to their function. To provide a change of scenery and refreshment to people working there during the day, the break areas are designed with craft furniture and artwork that incorporates many soft textured materials such as wood and fabrics and are filled with the warmth of handmade products.
