TORIDOLL
The new office of TORIDOLL, which operates restaurant chains such as “Marugame Udon,” has opened inside Shibuya Solasta, a development which completed only recently in May 2019. The decision to launch a new office was backed not just by the need to consolidate the client’s operational hubs, which were scattered across four different locations in Tokyo, but also the desire of the client “to do away, once and for all, with the image problem the restaurant business has as a workplace, and create a workplace where ideas and communications flourish.”
To create an environment that can attract the best talent, the design of this new office takes a cue from the concept of Activity-Based Working (ABW).
ABW is a design philosophy that originates in the Netherlands and achieves enhanced productivity by enabling workers to freely choose where they work within the office, depending on the nature of their tasks. Instead of simply creating a workstation-free office space, various features to enhance the quality of working experience — such as the vibrant meeting spaces that are strategically placed in different parts of the office, a library and a gallery to stimulate intellectual curiosity, and counters suited to tasks requiring concentration — are introduced. Siesta room, which encourages staff to take appropriate breaks, as well as spaces for lying down, are also part of the unique features of this office design. By treating wellbeing as a design element, and even more comfortable working environment is realized. This is an office environment that seeks to foster innovation in the restaurant business through an office that puts progressive working style into action.
