Osaka Art & Design 2023 designed by ahd osaka (Japan)

We provided total design-build services for the brand’s visual identity, including the production of the logo and key visuals, as well as the official website, guidebook, and signage ads, for the “Osaka Art & Design 2023” brand, a 14-day event held in Osaka, Japan’s second largest city, from May 31, featuring the participation of a number of commercial facilities, galleries and stores.

Featuring four arrows and the abbreviation for the event (OAD), the distinctive brand mark was designed based on the keywords, “fluidity/movement.” The mark embodies the essence and value of the event: changing sensibilities shifting between the boundaries of art and design, people’s activities around the city and artwork, and the image of the city expanding in all directions into the future as it prepares to host the Osaka, Kansai, Japan World Expo in 2025.

The key visual, which looks as if it is capturing the unexplored depths of the sea, is an original work by an artist unit called “DAISY BALLOON,” and it expresses natural cycles and an endlessly expanding microscopic universe. It added colors to Osaka during the event with an image of connecting the cities of Osaka while resonating with viewers’ sensitivities.

The eye-catching design lends the impression of the dawn of a brand new, uniquely-Osaka-style event, with a larger-than-life presence that will grow into a familiar sight over time, commensurate with plans to continue to hold the exhibition next year and well into the future. Creatives involved in comb6ining all these elements were instrumental in expanding recognition and sparking the interest of a wide range of people for this event.

With the participation of about 150 teams of creators and brands, approximately 88,000 people visited the event. With its success in the initial year, we also plan to hold the event in fiscal 2024 by further expanding its scale.
